In the past, decoding geospatial data was a complex challenge requiring significant technical expertise. But thanks to AI advancements, this is changing fast. AI can help streamline Earth analytics, opening up incredible opportunities for climate, nature, and people worldwide.

Enter Clay, a nonprofit project democratizing Earth observation — the collection, analysis, and use of data to better understand our planet. The Clay team has built the largest open-source Earth observation model out there.

Ode was tasked with making Clay’s model outputs broadly accessible and useful. Picture an interface as user-friendly as ChatGPT. Just point, click, and explore the world around you. We designed the user experience so that whether you’re a journalist, activist, investor, or simply curious, you can map, monitor, analyze, or report on anything Earth-related — harnessing the power of Earth information without needing to touch a line of code.

From the outset, we aimed to ensure that the benefits of AI for Earth would be accessible and impactful on a broad scale. We began by crafting an approachable and imaginative brand.

The name Clay was inspired by the concept of shaping things from clay, symbolizing collaboration and openness. We came up with the ingredient branding “Made With Clay” for use with partners and downstream applications. Our visual identity expresses an earthy, inviting feel through the use of colors, typography, and other design elements.

To increase awareness and reach, we implemented an agile marketing strategy, developed engaging social media content, crafted persuasive pitch decks, and launched a compelling website. Our efforts were recognized with a Webby nomination in the AI category, validating our commitment to making AI-driven Earth analytics accessible to all.
